What Darren Palmer wants you to buy for a stylish bedroom

Good luck finding someone more skilled in the art of styling a space than interior designer, and The Block judge, Darren Palmer. His ability to transform a space with considered pieces knows no bounds so when we had the chance to peep his shoppable list on Amazon we had to ask him all about his must-haves for a stylish bathroom.
If you’re looking to update your space, enjoy Darren’s aesthetically pleasing and affordable list of bedroom buys and his tips on how to make them work for your space.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a white room and adding life and flavour to it through texture. Textured wallpaper, a textured bedhead, texture on the bed, texture on rugs on the floor, artwork and drapery. Layers and layers of texture, pattern, linear elements and layers of tactility as well. It just makes your room feel more and more enveloping the more soft and layered it is.
My recommendation: Mudily 2-pack striped velvet corduroy pillow covers
Yes, wallpaper 100 per cent! Wallpaper is a really great way to add texture, colour and pattern. It does it better than paint, in my opinion. It is not as permanent as it used to be. If you buy the right wallpapers with a non-woven base or a vinyl base, they are easy to pull off the wall. They don’t damage your walls when you take them off. And they are a really great opportunity for you to add drama and interest and texture and colour, pattern and all the things that you can, you really get a lot out of wallpaper as a backdrop in a room. And I think it does it better than paint.

One of the major focal points of a bedroom is what you put over the bed and how you put things over the bed. Whether it’s a monochromatic approach where everything is all one colour or if you’re looking for lots of texture and pattern and variation and contrast, anything goes. There’s no one lick-and-stick way to make the bedroom look good, but bed linen is super important to a bedroom. So the colour you use, the way that you lay it out, whether you’re trying to go for a modern farmhouse aesthetic or a modern Mediterranean aesthetic or if you’re going for minimalistic or maximalistic, there are so many different directions you can take it. None of them are right.
My recommendation: Linen House Vintage Stripe Quilt Cover Set, Super King
The things that are at play in good interiors are things like repetition and forced perspective and that’s what a bed frame does. It gives you a higher level, and then you’ve got another level where your cushions are, and then another level where your bed cover is and then the floor. So you go from high and far away to lower and closer to lower and closer to lower and closer. That’s forced perspective and it works really well in interiors and that’s what a bed head or a bed frame does.
My recommendation: Koala Paddington Queen Bed Frame
Ottomans give that continuation of forced perspective. Place two of them at the foot of the bed and the purpose of them is again giving you a lower level by the end of the bed. It also gives you an opportunity to add another colour of material in your scheme and functionally it gives you somewhere to sit and put your shoes on so you don’t wreck your bed.
My recommendation: Koala Cork Sofa Ottoman
